A statement back adds extra design detail to a gown that makes your wedding dress feel intentional and refined. As a bride’s back is often to her guests during the ceremony, it is an important aspect to consider when choosing your dream dress. This can be achieved through a traditional veil, a modern accessory like our Rikki Cape, a detachable like our Lolita Jacket or Bobby Scarf, or lace up detail as shown on our Delilah Dress

Bows: A bow detail across the back of the dress gives a gown extra romance and softens modern designs, as seen on our Evie Young Hayworth wedding gown

Trains: A train is a traditional bridal element that also creates extra detail through the ends of the gown. Whether the train be detachable, like our Nina Train, or an elongated train effect made with our Janet Cape, or a romantic lace illusion.

Low Cut: Oftentimes, a low cut back line of a dress is a sensual statement in itself. This can be seen in our Dean or Posh styles.  This design choice creates a sleek, high-fashion edge in a bridal look that our trendy Evie Young brides adore.

Corset lace-up back: A corset-inspired lace up back design is a popular choice for a statement back, as it is slightly sexy, but full of vintage inspiration. This element feels romantic, while also making it possible for brides to further accentuate and draw in the waist for a snatched silhouette.

Jacket: A detachable jacket accessory adds statement, drama, and also a second look to a single dress. Like on our Lolita gown, a jacket elevates the dress, and creates a keyhole effect across the back for statement.

Scarf: Many of our dresses come with a matching neck scarf accessory, which has been widely popular in bridal fashion in recent years. This accessory feels delicate, feminine and classic, while adding visual intrigue to the back of a gown.

Overskirt: An overskirt, as seen on our Ariana lace gown, adds a romantic layered affect and secondary silhouette to a single design. Changing the look of the back of a dress entirely, with the ability to transform your look throughout your wedding day.

Both fitted and A-line wedding dresses can successfully feature a statement back design. The ‘wow’ factor can be achieved through crafted seam lines which flatter and the curves, or additional elements as listed above.

Yes! Given the many different design options which can create that unforgettable statement look from behind, means there are ones to suit all brides. If you need extra support through the bodice, avoid a low-cut back or corset tie – you will achieve the best support with a higher back and zip closure. If you plan to wear a veil, you may not want to include a trailing feature, like a scarf or train unless the full look has been designed with complementing accessories in mind.

No. A statement back is not necessarily overtly sexy, or dependent on showing a lot of skin. Many statement looks are achieved with romantic timeless touches, such as bows, trains and scarves which simply elevate the look to really capture every moment of the special day.
